SUMMARY:Bright Star
DESCRIPTION:Bright Star is the story of one woman at two different points in her life: the first\, when she is a wild young thing growing up barefoot and carefree in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina; the second\, when she is a well-to-do magazine editor in Asheville\, 22 years later. Her story is inevitably woven with that of an idealistic young man named Billy\, with whom she shares a mysterious connection. As a young teen in Zebulon\, North Carolina\, Alice Murphy is hopelessly in love with small town heartthrob Jimmy Ray\, the mayor’s son. Although their love was pure\, it falls victim to the interference of ambitious parents\, and their infant son is whisked away before their happy ending could ever begin. More than two decades later\, Alice is the successful editor of The Asheville Southern Journal\, and meets a promising young writer named Billy. Eventually they realize that they share a hometown\, and when Alice sees the handmade sweater she knitted for her baby 20 years before in his personal belongings\, she realizes that he is the son she lost so long ago. Their happiness is compounded at the end of the story with a Shakespeare-esque double wedding. Bright Star opened to generally positive reviews and closed after 139 performances. The cast recording was nominated for the 2017 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album.

SUMMARY:A Twisted Christmas Carol
DESCRIPTION:A Twisted Christmas Carol is a Texas spoof of Charles Dickens’ classic A Christmas Carol. It’s Christmas Eve in a small west Texas town\, and cantankerous barbecue joint owner Buford Johnson gets in an argument with his wife Darla\, tells her he’s skipping Christmas\, storms out of the restaurant\, goes four-wheeling in his pickup\, gets hit by a twister\, rolls his truck\, and goes into a coma. He comes back in his dream where he’s visited by ex-business partner\, Hank Walker\, who plays the ghost of Christmas past\, present\, and future. Hank takes Buford on a journey similar to Scrooge’s in A Christmas Carol\, only Texas-style.

SUMMARY:Something Rotten!
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the Renaissance and the outrageous\, crowd-pleasing musical farce\, Something Rotten.  Created by Grammy Award-winning songwriter Wayne Kirkpatrick\, and successful screenwriters Karey Kirkpatrick and John O’Farrell\, Something Rotten was lauded by audience members and critics alike\, receiving several Best Musical nominations and hailed by Time Out New York as “the funniest musical comedy in at least 400 years”. \nSet in the 1590s\, brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom are desperate to write a hit play but are stuck in the shadow of that Renaissance rock star known as “The Bard.” When a local soothsayer foretells that the future of theatre involves singing\, dancing and acting at the same time\, Nick and Nigel set out to write the world’s very first musical. But amidst the scandalous excitement of opening night\, the Bottom Brothers realize that reaching the top means being true to thine own self\, and all that jazz.

SUMMARY:The Last Night of Ballyhoo
DESCRIPTION:THE LAST NIGHT OF BALLYHOO takes place in Atlanta\, Georgia\, in December of 1939. Gone with the Wind is having its world premiere\, and Hitler is invading Poland\, but Atlanta’s elitist German Jews are much more concerned with who is going to Ballyhoo\, the social event of the season. Especially concerned is the Freitag family: bachelor Adolph; his widowed sister\, Beulah (Boo) Levy; and their also widowed sister-in-law\, Reba. Boo is determined to have her dreamy\, unpopular daughter\, Lala\, attend Ballyhoo\, believing it will be Lala’s last chance to find a socially acceptable husband. Adolph brings his new assistant\, Joe Farkas\, home for dinner. Joe is Brooklyn born and bred\, and furthermore is of Eastern European heritage—several social rungs below the Freitags\, in Beulah’s opinion. Lala\, however\, is charmed by Joe and she hints broadly about being taken to Ballyhoo\, but he turns her down. This enrages Boo\, and matters get worse when Joe falls for Lala’s cousin\, Reba’s daughter\, Sunny\, home from Wellesley for Christmas vacation. \nWill Boo succeed in snaring Peachy Weil\, a member of one of the finest Jewish families in the South? Will Sunny and Joe avoid the land mines of prejudice that stand in their way? Will Lala ever get to Ballyhoo? The family gets pulled apart and then mended together with plenty of comedy\, romance\, and revelations along the way. Events take several unexpected turns as the characters face where they come from and are forced to deal with who they really are.

SUMMARY:Frankenstein 1930
DESCRIPTION:Harking back to the original concept of Frankenstein\, this version amplifies the film’s suspenseful horror and adds greater depth of character and motivation as well as a new and different love story. All of the eagerly anticipated elements are here: the stone walled laboratory\, the crazed scientist\, angry villagers\, a swooning heroine\, a fearful storm and the hideous yet pathetic\, deadly creature with its confused mind and powerful\, undisciplined body. The final confrontation between the doctor and the creature produces a startling surprise.
