About Us

The mission of the Carroll County Community Theater is to provide the opportunity, encouragement, and support for adults in the Carroll County area to participate in all aspects of the theater arts, and to provide a variety of engaging and quality live theater performances for all.

About Us

The mission of the Carroll County Community Theatre is to involve the local community in the experience of live theater. Its aim is to enable members of the community of every age, sex, and background to learn about and participate in every aspect of theater, including play selection, acting, lighting, costume making, publicity, and set construction. It also offers the public an opportunity to enjoy quality productions of both well-known and less frequently seen plays.

Our philosophy behind play selection and casting is to reach and involve people of diverse backgrounds, both university and community people, those with theater training and without, and young people and families as well as adults of all ages. As a community theater the organization expects everyone involved to participate in many aspects of production, both on and off stage. As non-professional theater it recognizes the diverse commitments of its participants and seeks to structure rehearsals, production work, and performances accordingly. The organization is a community theater group which takes the word “community” seriously.

Our History

The Carroll County Community Theater presented its first production, “You Can’t Take It With You” in March of 1979. That production took place in the cafetorium at Carrollton High School. CCCT has just completed its 130 th production, “Miracle Worker” in the Danny N. Mabry Theater at the Cultural Arts Center.

From its initial home on the third floor of the Old City Hall, CCCT moved to the Bonner Building at the Old Carrollton Junior High School, and then to its current home at the Carrollton Cultural Arts Center. During its vagabond years, CCCT performed at a number of venues. They included the Carrollton High School cafetorium, the old Carrollton High School Auditorium (converted from the old gym building), the auditorium in the Old Carrollton Junior High School, the Carroll County Courthouse, The Townsend Center at UWG, a revival tent, and even after the move to the Cultural Arts center, a show at the AMP. CCCT has mostly relied on local volunteer talent. Traditionally, only the Director and Music Director received a modest stipend. There also came a time when it became necessary to pay musicians in order to complete the ensemble required for the musicals.

The productions over the years have been varied. From comedies like “Star Spangled Girl” and “Arsenic and Old Lace” to dramas like “Death of a Salesman”, “Diary of Anne Frank”, and The Crucible to musicals like “The King and I”, “My Fair Lady” and “Mary Poppins”.
